Welcome to the Eighth Pan American Health Care Exchanges Conference - PAHCE 2013, an international event which addresses technology oriented medical practices, biomedical and bioengineering progress, and recent advances, new techniques and applications in the health sciences. This event links the clinical sector, biomedical engineering and the hospital environment together with industry, research and development groups, related academic programs and professional organizations encompassing biomedical technology and health care sectors. The event provides opportunities to share recent developments and experiences in related fields and serves as an occasion to enrich the interaction between research groups, professionals in health care and related industry.

The event includes parallel activities in the three official languages (English, Spanish, and Portuguese), although it is recommended that the presented materials share information in formats assuring broad distribution.

We hope everyone will enjoy the activities of PAHCE 2013, in the beautiful city of Medellin - Colombia, known as the "city of eternal spring", a land of rich culture and natural beauty. This metropolitan city is located in the Central Cordillera of the Andes at 1600 meters above sea level and is home to nearly 3.600.000 residents. This city is renowned for its great dynamism and is highlighted as a major financial, industrial, commercial and service center of Colombia. It offers an excellent international and domestic travel network to enjoy historical and tourist attractions. It is also notable as a leading cultural and academic center of Colombia, one of the most sought destinations in South America.

Bienvenido a la Octava Conferencia Pan American Health Care Exchanges -¬ PAHCE 2013, un evento internacional en el que se tratan aspectos de la tecnología en el entorno de la práctica médica, biomédica y la bioingeniería, en el que se presenta y discute los avances más recientes, nuevas técnicas y aplicaciones en las ciencias de la salud. Un espacio que reúne al sector clínico, la ingeniería biomédica y el sector hospitalario con la industria, los grupos de desarrollo e investigación, los programas académicos y las asociaciones científicas que congregan los sectores de la tecnología biomédica y de la atención en salud. El evento promueve así oportunidades para compartir experiencias de desarrollo en el campo, así como brinda la posibilidad de enriquecer la interacción y cooperación entre los grupos investigadores, profesionales del área de la salud y la industria relacionada.

El evento incluye actividades paralelas en las tres lenguas oficiales (inglés, español y portugués). No obstante, se recomienda que el material de las presentaciones y de los Abstracts, sea en inglés, o comparta información en ambas lenguas, de modo que tenga mayor difusión.

Esperamos que todos disfruten de las actividades del PAHCE 2013, en la hermosa ciudad de Medellín – Colombia, conocida como ”la ciudad de la eterna primavera”, tierra de rica cultura y bellos paisajes naturales. Ubicada en la Cordillera Central de los Andes, a 1600 metros sobre el nivel del mar, tiene una urbe metropolitana que alberga casi los 3’600.000 habitantes. Ciudad notable por su gran dinamismo, siendo destacada como uno de los principales centros financieros, industriales, comerciales y de servicios de Colombia. Así mismo, es notable como uno de los principales centros culturales y académicos del país, y uno de los destinos más seleccionados en Sur América.
